Jennifer Coolidge openly shares her experience of working with Bill Murray, describing it as “scary as hell” during their first collaboration. This candid admission highlights the blend of excitement and anxiety that often accompanies working alongside established talents in the film industry.
Although Coolidge is not returning for the latest season of “The White Lotus,” following her character Tanya’s tragic demise in Season 2, she is making waves in a murder-themed narrative with “Riff Raff.” This film marks a significant milestone, as it features her working alongside seasoned actors like Ed Harris and Bill Murray, enriching her acting journey and showcasing her versatility in diverse roles.
In the dark comedy film “Riff Raff,” which centers around a dysfunctional family reunion steeped in crime, Coolidge portrays the comically engaging character Ruth. In a surprising twist, she reconnects with her former felon ex-husband, Vincent, played by the talented Ed Harris. This dynamic adds layers to the film’s humor and drama, making it a must-watch for fans of quirky, character-driven stories.
Among the impressive ensemble cast, Coolidge expressed particular astonishment at Bill Murray’s portrayal of the menacing character Leftie. Her admiration for his acting skills shines through as she reflects on how he navigates such a dark role with ease and creativity.
“I’ve never seen Bill go that dark,” Coolidge reveals in an interview with Variety. “Clearly, he has so much to offer that he can pull off playing this extremely dark, twisted individual. Oddly enough, it was frightening, yet I couldn’t stop laughing, which even caused me to ruin a few takes. He embodies a unique blend of bizarre and captivating, making it a rare experience.”
While “Riff Raff” features a host of veteran actors who have honed their craft over decades, it also introduces rising stars like Pete Davidson, who is steadily building his filmography. Coolidge describes Davidson as a “laugh riot” on set, sharing a memorable moment when he braved challenging snowy conditions, demonstrating his dedication and sense of humor amid the filming process.

“At one point, we found ourselves in a house perched atop a very snowy hill in New Jersey,” Coolidge recalls. “The weather was frigid, and we were isolated in the middle of nowhere, but when I looked out the window, I saw this Rolls-Royce making its way up the hill. I was astounded, thinking, ‘How on earth can they navigate up the hill without sliding backward?’ Those cars are incredibly heavy. Then I realized it was Pete behind the wheel, who is always doing his own thing.”
