Jacob Elordi’s Battle Drama The Slim Street Acquired by BBC
The manufacturing and distribution giant, Constantin Movie, has officially revealed the cast for its highly anticipated crime-drama series, “Smilla’s Sense of Snow.” Along with this announcement, the first-look photos have been showcased, building excitement and curiosity among fans and critics alike.
This captivating series features a talented cast including Filippa Coster-Waldau, Elyas M’Barek, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. Supporting actors also include Morten Suurballe, Amanda Collin, Set Sjöstrand, and Alexandre Willaume, all of whom bring their unique talents to this compelling narrative.
This gripping series is helmed by BAFTA-winning director Amma Asante, with the script penned by Clive Bradley, adapted from Peter Hoeg’s bestselling novel. This novel was previously brought to life in 1997 as a feature film directed by Bille August, starring Julia Ormond in the lead role, which adds a rich history to the narrative.
Set in the year 2040, the series unfolds in a dystopian Copenhagen, where Smilla Jaspersen navigates life in a surveillance state threatened by an impending energy crisis. Leading a solitary and reclusive existence, her world is turned upside down when she encounters a young Inuit boy who breaks through her emotional barriers. However, the boy’s sudden and mysterious demise ignites a fire within Smilla to uncover the truth behind his death.
As Smilla embarks on her quest for answers, she finds herself drawn to the frigid landscapes of Greenland, where deadly political power plays unfold. Her exceptional abilities and unique perspective become crucial in uncovering the truth about the boy’s death and her own identity, intertwining personal stakes with larger societal issues.
Filippa Coster-Waldau</, the actress portraying Smilla, is an emerging talent in the Danish film industry. In 2022, she took on a lead role in the critically acclaimed youth series “Salsa”, which was praised for its bold and honest storytelling. Additionally, she starred as Louise in the original series “Where Were You” on Viaplay, further establishing her reputation as a promising actress. Coster-Waldau also lends her voice to the character of Wednesday in the Danish version of “The Addams Family.”
Elyas M’Barek, recognized as one of Germany’s most celebrated film actors, marks his entry into international cinema with a prominent role in this series, adding significant star power to the cast.
He has achieved remarkable success with leading roles in popular films such as “Turkish for Rookies” (2012) and the “Fuck You Goethe” trilogy (2013, 2015, 2017), which collectively attracted over 25 million viewers. M’Barek also demonstrated his acting prowess in critically acclaimed films like “The Collini Case” (2019) and “Nightlife” (2020), alongside the box-office sensation “Das Perfekte Geheimnis” (2019).
In 2023, M’Barek received a nomination for a prestigious Bambi Award in the Best Actor category for his exceptional performance in Michael Bully Herbig’s political satire “A Thousand Lines.”
Additionally, he is the voice of “Paddington” in the German versions of the beloved movies, with the latest installment, “Paddington in Peru,” hitting theaters recently.
British actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes is set to appear in the upcoming film “Thursday Murder Club,” directed by Chris Columbus for Netflix. He was last seen in the Hulu miniseries “We Were the Lucky Ones,” adapted from the bestselling novel, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
