Janelle Raises Concerns About Kody’s Financial Management and Priorities

In a candid discussion about the family’s financial struggles, Janelle expressed her frustrations regarding their inability to settle the debts associated with Coyote Pass. She mentioned that Kody often claimed to be burdened with “all these other debts,” yet she observed him acquiring various assets, including trailers and home décor. “I see all the art on their walls,” she remarked, referring specifically to the home shared by Robyn and Kody. “I see all these things. And that’s fine; I have money and I’ve spent it on things, too.” Kody countered her claims, stating that much of his income was directed toward purchasing vehicles—he humorously noted that he “basically had a fleet”—and covering insurance expenses for their children.

While Janelle admitted uncertainty regarding the financial strategies employed by Kody and Robyn, she couldn’t help but notice how well-maintained Robyn’s backyard appeared. “I used to always be surprised at how nice her backyard was. It was completely finished. And there was always, like, stuff at her house. And I was like, ‘Wow. Huh,’” she reflected, highlighting the disparity in their spending habits. This observation led her to conclude that Kody does not prioritize her needs or desires. Ultimately, this lack of attention to her concerns began to take a toll on her emotional well-being. “I think after a while, I began to see it, and my kids were getting very angry about it, like my adult children. Like, ‘What the hell, Mom?’”

From Robyn’s perspective, her careful approach to budgeting stemmed from the lessons she learned following her first marriage’s dissolution. “I used to be not so great with money,” she admitted during the September 22 episode. “When I was young, I had hard knocks, and then I learned during my divorce really how to budget myself very, very well.” She suggested that her sister wives simply had different priorities when it came to financial management, stating, “You just must have had a different priority of where your money was going to go than I did, that’s all.”
