In light of the film’s disappointing box-office performance, Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra has pointed fingers at critics and media coverage, suggesting that negative press has significantly impacted audience perception. He remarked, “Madame Web underperformed at the box office largely due to the overwhelming criticism from the press. It performed well on Netflix, indicating it wasn’t necessarily a bad film.” Vinciquerra further claims that the media has unfairly targeted both Kraven and Madame Web, despite the fact that audiences enjoyed Venom, which became a massive hit despite similar critiques.”
