Kraven the Hunter 4K UHD and Blu-ray Release Date Announced
Kraven the Hunter has officially marked the end of Sony’s Marvel universe, but fans can look forward to the film’s upcoming release on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. Despite the film’s disappointing performance at the box office, it is set to hit shelves, providing an opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of this controversial addition to the Marvel franchise.
Currently, the Sony Marvel Universe appears to be at a standstill, with Kraven the Hunter symbolizing a significant turning point. The film received harsh criticism from audiences and critics alike, earning it a reputation that is only slightly better than that of Morbius and Madame Web. With a disappointing global box office total of just $59.4 million, it stands as the lowest-grossing installment in Sony’s Marvel lineup. Nevertheless, there are still dedicated fans eager to add this title to their 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray collections, as Sony Pictures has confirmed that it will be available for purchase starting on March 4th.
As previously mentioned, Kraven the Hunter will also be available for digital purchase on January 14th. Those who choose to buy the 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and Digital versions will be treated to a variety of special features that enhance the viewing experience. These features include:
- Deleted & Extended Scenes
- Becoming Kraven
- Beast Mode: The Stunts of the Hunt
- Outtakes & Bloopers
- Kraven’s First Hunt: The Direction
- Allies & Antagonists: The Killer Cast
According to the official synopsis, Kraven the Hunter delivers an action-packed, R-rated narrative that explores the origins of one of Marvel’s most notorious villains. The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven, who grapples with a tumultuous relationship with his father, Nikolai Kravinoff, played by Russell Crowe. This complex father-son dynamic propels Kraven on a path of vengeance that ultimately transforms him into one of the world’s most formidable hunters, feared for his brutal methods. Alongside Taylor-Johnson and Crowe, the film features a talented cast, including Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, and Christopher Abbott. In light of the film’s disappointing box-office performance, Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra has pointed fingers at critics and media coverage, suggesting that negative press has significantly impacted audience perception. He remarked, “Madame Web underperformed at the box office largely due to the overwhelming criticism from the press. It performed well on Netflix, indicating it wasn’t necessarily a bad film.” Vinciquerra further claims that the media has unfairly targeted both Kraven and Madame Web, despite the fact that audiences enjoyed Venom, which became a massive hit despite similar critiques.”
