Lindsey Buckingham has reunited in the recording studio with his former bandmate Mick Fleetwood, marking their first collaboration since Buckingham was dismissed from Fleetwood Mac in 2018. This significant moment highlights their enduring friendship, which has persisted despite past conflicts. The duo notably appeared together in February at the sixth annual Jam For Janie Grammy Awards viewing party at the Hollywood Palladium. Their last studio collaboration, the album Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie, released in 2017, featured contributions from every member of Fleetwood Mac except the iconic Stevie Nicks.
In an exciting development, Carl Falk, the Swedish producer overseeing Fleetwood’s solo project, revealed that Buckingham’s recent visit to the studio led to a remarkable experience. Falk shared on Threads, “It was a slightly unreal moment to sit with Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood to play Lindsey the album we have been working on.” He expressed his joy at Buckingham’s genuine happiness for Fleetwood as he embarks on this solo endeavor and his willingness to contribute guitar and vocals. Falk expressed eagerness to complete the album, hinting at the creative synergy between the two legendary musicians.

Falk, known for his work with high-profile pop artists like Madonna, Demi Lovato, One Direction, and Ariana Grande, has been documenting the studio sessions on social media. He has posted images of Buckingham and Fleetwood collaborating, and another featuring Fleetwood with Adam Granduciel, frontman of War On Drugs. One particularly striking image of Buckingham was captioned: “Mick and Lindsey together again, what a flawless guitar player,” highlighting Buckingham’s exceptional talent.
Recently, Fleetwood released his latest solo album, Blues Experience, featuring the innovative ukulele virtuoso and composer Jake Shimabukuro. His previous solo work, Something Big, dates back to 2004. Notably, Fleetwood Mac has not toured since 2019, when they performed with Mike Campbell and Neil Finn stepping in for Buckingham. In light of Christine McVie‘s passing in 2022, Nicks has firmly rejected any discussions regarding a potential reunion.
Despite Fleetwood’s consistent encouragement towards a reunion, Nicks has expressed her determination not to collaborate with Buckingham again. Reflecting on their complex relationship, Fleetwood commented in February at the Janie’s Fund event, “I always have a fantasy that she and Lindsey would pal up a bit more and just say everything’s OK for them both.” However, Nicks remains resolute in her stance, stating, “I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could,” in an interview with Rolling Stone. She added, “You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances,” emphasizing the challenges of their dynamic.
