Lisa Marie’s 2nd Death Anniversary: Priscilla Presley Reflects
Warning: This story contains mentions of suicide.
On January 12, Priscilla Presley shared a heartfelt tribute to her beloved daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, on the second anniversary of her untimely passing. Accompanying an emotional Instagram post that showcased a beautiful image of Lisa Marie with a gentle smile, Priscilla expressed her profound feelings: “I miss you more than words can say. I wish I could hold you, talk to you, see your smile just one more time. I wish you could see how much you are still loved, how deeply you are missed by all of us who carry you in our hearts.” This touching message resonated with many who have experienced similar losses, illustrating the enduring bond between a mother and her daughter.
The poignant tribute was accompanied by a lilting instrumental rendition of Elvis Presley’s classic 1972 hit “Always on My Mind,” and signed simply “Mom.” This resonant memorial served as a beautiful homage to Lisa Marie, who tragically passed away at the age of 54 due to a heart attack in January 2023. As the only child of the legendary Elvis Presley and Priscilla, Lisa Marie was laid to rest at the iconic Graceland estate in Memphis, alongside her father and her son, Benjamin, who died by suicide in 2020, marking a heartbreaking narrative of loss within the Presley family.
To honor this significant anniversary, Lisa Marie’s daughter, the talented star of Daisy Jones & the Six, Riley Keough, also commemorated the day with an array of cherished photos of her mother shared in her Instagram Story. Among these was a heartwarming image capturing a smiling Lisa Marie lovingly caring for her twins, Finley and Harper, from her second marriage to Michael Lockwood. This moving post, originally shared by half-sister Finley, was accompanied by the touching caption “2 years [heart emoji] I love you always,” showcasing the enduring love and remembrance of a daughter for her mother.
In another emotional tribute, Harper shared a slide that featured Lisa Marie holding her precious twins, expressing her feelings with the heartfelt message, “I can’t believe it’s been 2 years, I miss you and love you so much mama [heart, dove emoji].” Riley Keough has also been actively involved in preserving her mother’s legacy by helping finalize Lisa Marie’s posthumous memoir, titled From Here to the Great Unknown, which is set to be released in October 2024. This memoir is expected to offer profound insights into Lisa Marie’s life, struggles, and her enduring spirit.
During a heartfelt interview with People last year, while promoting the upcoming book, Keough shared that although Lisa Marie’s death was initially attributed to a small-bowel obstruction—an unfortunate complication arising from weight loss-related bariatric surgery—there were deeper emotional factors that contributed to her passing. Keough poignantly reflected on the immense pain her mother endured, particularly after the tragic loss of Benjamin, her son, highlighting the emotional turmoil that accompanied her mother’s physical health struggles.
“My mom tried her best to find strength for me and my younger sisters after Ben died, but we knew how much pain she was in,” Keough revealed, shedding light on the heartbreaking reality faced by the Presley family. “My mom physically died from the after effects of her surgery, but we all knew she died of a broken heart,” Keough expressed. Additionally, the memoir is expected to reveal shocking details, including the revelation that Lisa Marie was so overwhelmed with grief over Ben’s death that she kept his body preserved in dry ice at home for two months, a testament to the depth of her sorrow and the complexity of her emotional struggles.
