Despite its acclaim, Long After Dark wasn?t among Petty’s personal favorites. In an enlightening interview featured in 2005’s Conversations With Tom Petty, he reflected, “It wasn’t that I didn’t like it; it’s a solid rock and roll record with great songs and musicianship. However, I feel we may not have progressed as artists with that particular album.”
