Mariah Carey Reacts to Lawyer’s Rock Hall Induction
Mariah Carey Expresses Disappointment Over Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Snub
Mariah Carey recently shared her feelings regarding her exclusion from the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, especially after her lawyer received the accolade two years ago. The acclaimed singer revealed that she had been looking forward to potentially joining the illustrious class of 2024, which includes legends like Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, and Cher. Unfortunately, she did not make the final cut, leaving her to reflect on the missed opportunity.
When asked for her perspective on the situation, Carey candidly stated to the L.A. Times: “My thoughts are, I didn’t get in.”

She elaborated, saying: “Everyone was calling me, saying, ‘I think you’re getting in!’ so I was genuinely excited about it. However, when the announcement came, I was disappointed to find out that my lawyer had been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame before I had the chance to be recognized.”
Carey’s legal representation comes from Allen Grubman, a prominent figure who has also represented music icons such as Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, and U2. Grubman himself was inducted in 2022, honored by another of his clients, John Mellencamp, as the recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Award. Notably, Grubman is a co-founder of the Rock Hall, adding another layer of significance to his recognition.
Mariah Carey’s Grammy Experience: A Desire for More Recognition
During the same interview, Carey reflected on her Grammy wins, expressing a hint of frustration and disappointment. She recounted, “They gave me two Grammys when I first started out, which was encouraging. However, during a particularly huge year for me—marked by the success of my Daydream album—I received six nominations for hit singles like ‘One Sweet Day,’ ‘Always Be My Baby,’ and ‘Fantasy.’”
“With such a lineup of chart-topping songs, I felt confident that at least ‘One Sweet Day’ would win for best duet or perhaps another category. But to my dismay, I sat through the entire ceremony without receiving any awards,” she added, reflecting on her disappointment.
Mariah candidly stated, “I thought to myself, ‘This is not fun.’ But what can I do? Should I be a sore loser and say, ‘Forget the Grammys’? Ultimately, if they decide to give me more Grammys in the future, I’ll certainly appreciate them more.”
