Could Elsbeth be set to welcome back another cherished member of the The Good Wife family? Mike Colter, known for his captivating portrayal of the crime lord Lemond Bishop in both The Good Wife and The Good Fight, is certainly open to the idea. During a lively panel hosted by Collider’s Maggie Lovitt at Indiana Comic Con, Colter expressed his enthusiasm about potentially returning to Robert and Michelle King’s expansive legal universe. He mentioned that he has already visited the set of Elsbeth, the CBS procedural spin-off featuring Carrie Preston, and has forged close relationships with many cast members. Most importantly, he sees a possible avenue for his character’s return, contingent on the right storyline. Colter also highlighted that Michael Emerson, his co-star from Evil, has made guest appearances on the series as well.
“You know what, I think it’s funny, Michael Emerson is in Elsbeth and he’s married to Carrie. Elsbeth is shot literally around the corner from us, so I went to the set and hung out with the guys. I’m a big fan of Wendell Pierce and Carrie, so it’s possible for me if they come up with something interesting.”
While the possibility of Colter’s return remains open, he also acknowledged the unique challenges that come with it. Beyond his iconic role as Lemond Bishop, he is also recognized for his performance as David Acosta in the King-created supernatural thriller Evil. Although the crossover potential between The Good Wife and Elsbeth is intriguing, Evil operates within a completely different universe, making it complicated to introduce Colter as a brand new character in this context. He elaborated on this challenge:
“In their world, they use actors so often, when I show up is it David or is it Lemond Bishop? It has to be a character that is so different, you know what I mean? Because those worlds aren’t the same.”
Mike Colter Reveals Lemond Bishop Is “Still Alive and Kicking”
Despite the complexities involved, if Colter does make a return, he has a clear preference for reprising his original role as Lemond Bishop. This notorious drug kingpin and astute businessman was last seen in The Good Fight, yet he was never definitively written off, leaving the door ajar for a potential comeback. Colter appears genuinely interested in the idea of returning to this fan-favorite character.
“It could be Lemond Bishop, I could come back as him, he’s still around.”
Considering the dynamic nature of Elsbeth, which skillfully blends procedural casework with character-driven narratives, having Bishop involved in a case that Elsbeth is tasked to solve could create an exciting twist on the pathways his character has traversed thus far. Although nothing has been made official yet, Colter’s remarks indicate that he is at least receptive to the idea of reviving one of his most memorable roles. Stay tuned to Collider for the latest updates regarding Elsbeth.
