MuppetVision 3D to Close at Disney Theme Park
The beloved MuppetVision 3D attraction and Muppets Courtyard are set to undergo a significant transformation, making way for an exciting new Monsters Inc.-themed land. In an unexpected twist, the Muppets will find a new home by replacing Aerosmith in a different area of the park, introducing a fresh chapter for these iconic characters.
As the iconic phrase goes, “it’s time to stop the music, it’s time to kill the lights.” This heart-wrenching announcement for Muppet fans marks the end of an era, as MuppetVision 3D closes its doors after delighting audiences at Disneyland’s Hollywood Studios since 1991. The decision to retire this cherished attraction is fueled by the development of the new Monsters Inc. Land. Fans, prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions as we bid farewell to a beloved classic!
With the closure of MuppetVision 3D, the entire Muppets Courtyard is set to undergo a dramatic makeover. This means saying goodbye to iconic elements such as Miss Piggy’s fountain, which has undergone its own transformations over the years, along with the themed eateries and the myriad of hidden gems that have brought joy to countless visitors. Instead, guests can look forward to an immersive area themed around Monsters, Inc., a project likely inspired by the success of Toy Story Land and its captivating experiences.
While the fate of the building housing MuppetVision 3D remains uncertain, Disney assures fans that the beloved short film is not being completely erased from history. In a recent statement, Disney expressed their commitment to engaging in creative discussions about how to preserve MuppetVision 3D and its cherished elements for future enjoyment. Although specific details are yet to be revealed, it would be fantastic to see the magic of MuppetVision 3D live on, perhaps even in our own homes. However, replicating the thrilling 4D effects, dramatic moments, and the sharp wit of Statler and Waldorf will be a formidable challenge.
Despite the changes, the Muppets will not vanish entirely from Disneyland. While their presence has waned over the years, The Muppet Show house band, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, is set to take over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, replacing Aerosmith. This transformation promises to deliver a delightful mix of laughter, screams, and new musical experiences, infusing the attraction with the Muppets’ signature charm. With Kermit and Miss Piggy featured on promotional materials, fans can anticipate appearances from some of their favorite characters, ensuring that the spirit of the Muppets remains alive in the park.
As a fan of the Muppets, I understand the allure of a Monsters, Inc. themed area in Disneyland, especially with the promise of a thrilling suspended roller coaster that captures the essence of the iconic door sequence. However, the purist and devoted Muppet enthusiast in me struggles with this transition. The rising costs of Disneyland tickets, reminiscent of a botched stunt by Great Gonzo, make it even more disheartening to realize that I’ve traversed the queue, felt the excitement in the prop warehouse, and perhaps even “borrowed” those delightful pink 3D glasses for the last time.
What are your thoughts on the closure of MuppetVision 3D? Are you excited about the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land and the new experiences it will bring?
