Nancy Wilson, the iconic guitarist of Heart, openly expresses her discontent regarding the current condition of America. In a recent discussion with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, she reflected on the group’s landmark 1975 song “Crazy on You,” which was inspired by one of the most chaotic periods in U.S. history – a time marked by social upheaval and political strife.
Wilson shared, “We were kind of embarrassed at that time to call ourselves American because of the dirty politics of the Vietnam War,” emphasizing that the song continues to resonate deeply even as we approach 2025. “To be as subtle as possible, it’s more embarrassing now,” she added, highlighting her ongoing concern.
Wilson’s insights extend beyond mere politics; she is also deeply troubled by the pervasive sexism and misogyny prevalent in today’s society, sentiments that echo another of Heart’s most acclaimed tracks, “Barracuda.”

She stated, “It is even more relevant in the salacious billionaire culture with the grab-them-by-the-pussy mentality,” indicating how these timeless songs continue to reflect the ongoing struggles women face. “These songs will be there long after we are gone,” she asserted, underscoring their lasting impact.
Despite her frustrations regarding the current state of America, Wilson remains optimistic about the future, stating, “I think for women in the culture the pendulum will come back again, and there’ll be another renaissance in the arts to push back against the oppression of the cranky old rich white guys.” She expressed her hope to witness this transformative movement during her lifetime.
