This past Friday, December 27, the iconic guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams of the beloved metal band Nevermore shared an intriguing video clip on their social media channels. Founded in 1991 by bassist Jim Sheppard and the late vocalist Warrel Dane, who emerged from the remnants of the band Sanctuary, Nevermore is celebrated for their innovative blend of progressive, thrash, and power metal. Over their career, they released seven studio albums, beginning with their self-titled debut in 1995 and concluding with the well-received The Obsidian Conspiracy in 2010. In addition to their albums, they toured alongside numerous prestigious acts, including In Flames, Disturbed, Opeth, Shadows Fall, and Motörhead, solidifying their place in the metal scene.
Throughout the years, various members came and went, with Loomis joining the band in 1992 and Williams in 1994. However, in 2011, both Loomis and Williams departed Nevermore due to ongoing internal conflicts and personal decisions to pursue their individual careers. This period saw the cancellation of multiple tours, and although talks of a reunion surfaced periodically, they never materialized, particularly after the tragic passing of Dane in 2017 from a suspected heart attack, which further complicated the band’s future.
In 2014, Loomis transitioned to join Arch Enemy, taking over from guitarist Nick Cordle. He contributed to several of their albums, including 2014’s War Eternal, 2017’s Will to Power, and 2022’s Deceivers. However, in late 2023, Loomis and Arch Enemy amicably parted ways, leading to the introduction of his successor, Joey Concepcion.
Meanwhile, Williams has been active in the music scene, producing albums with projects like Ashes of Ares and Ghost Ship Octavius since his exit from Nevermore. As Loomis and Williams hint at their future endeavors, the anticipation builds among fans eager to discover their next chapter. While details remain scarce, both the band and their followers are eager to see what unfolds next for Nevermore in 2025.
