Black Bag, a thrilling new spy movie directed by the acclaimed Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh (known for hits like Ocean’s 11 and Erin Brockovich), has made a significant impact on the box office charts. This gripping film follows the journey of British intelligence officer George Woodhouse, portrayed by Michael Fassbender, who is on a mission to uncover a mole within his organization, suspecting that the traitor may be his own wife, Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. The film also features a talented ensemble cast, including Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, and Pierce Brosnan. Despite the star-studded lineup, it debuted at the domestic box office in second place with a modest $7.6 million, trailing behind the new release Novocaine.
Novocaine is an action-comedy film featuring a protagonist who is unable to feel pain, starring Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Jacob Batalon, and Ray Nicholson. The unique premise adds a comedic twist to the action genre, appealing to a wide audience.
According to The Numbers, Black Bag has successfully grossed $14.6 million globally, surpassing Soderbergh’s previous thriller, Unsane, which earned $14.3 million worldwide. This achievement marks Black Bag as Steven Soderbergh’s 25th highest-grossing film across all his roles as director, producer, or executive producer. When focusing solely on his directorial work, this new spy film impressively ranks at No. 17 among his top-grossing films, just behind the 2002 science fiction film Solaris, which grossed $14.97 million globally.
