Plus size content creators often confront significant challenges in the social media landscape. While the journey can be tough, it is far from impossible!
Here are five limiting beliefs I’ve had to challenge and overcome to consistently showcase my authentic self in this space.
Overcoming the Fear of Not Being Attractive Enough for Social Media — Limiting Belief No.1 for Plus Size Content Creators
The standards of beauty are perpetually evolving, and the impact of fatphobia remains deeply ingrained in our culture. Social media often rewards those who fit into the narrow confines of beauty, showcasing the “perfect” lives of a select few. However, I’m here to illuminate the genuine, unfiltered journey of self-acceptance. Forget the superficial standards! My self-worth is not contingent on societal aesthetics. Even if there are those who fail to recognize it, I find validation in my relationship with God and in my own self-perception. Ultimately, believing I am attractive is paramount, and that belief fuels my presence online.
Embracing My Unique Plus Size Shape for Full-Body Content — Limiting Belief No.2 for Plus Size Content Creators
In the realm of body positivity, there exists an unspoken hierarchy. Just as the light-skin versus dark-skin debate persists, there’s a similar bias towards plus size bodies based on their conformity to societal norms. Typically, hourglass and pear-shaped figures receive more acceptance than apple-shaped ones. While this reality is disheartening, I’ve learned to embrace my body at every stage of its journey. There are countless individuals who need to see themselves reflected in my experiences. Whenever I grapple with insecurities about my arms, swimwear choices, or crop tops, I remind myself that the least interesting aspect of me is my body type. I am a multifaceted individual with much more to offer than my appearance.

Why I Can Share My Fitness Journey Regardless of My Size — Limiting Belief No.3 for Plus Size Content Creators
It’s impossible to please everyone, especially when you’re plus size. And let’s be clear: “fat” is just a descriptive term, not a derogatory one. People will inevitably have opinions about your gym attire, body rolls, or how you move. It’s crucial to ignore the negativity and embrace movement because you love your body, not out of self-hate. Whether you choose to pursue weight loss or not, it’s essential to prioritize your own happiness. Own your space—whether in person, online, at the gym, or any event. You deserve visibility and representation, no matter what anyone else thinks.

Finding My Voice Despite Feeling Invisible to Men — Limiting Belief No.4 for Plus Size Content Creators
It’s easy to fall into the societal trap of creating content aimed at male approval. While some plus-size women thrive in the dating world, my experiences have often been quite different. I’ve grappled with feelings of being overlooked and undervalued, leading me to believe that I’d never be seen as “the prize.” Instead of focusing on who doesn’t appreciate me, I channel my energy towards uplifting the women who do. My platform serves as a sanctuary for those who feel marginalized and are made to question their worth. Would I like romantic attention? Absolutely. However, I refuse to waste my time trying to convince those who don’t recognize my value. That’s final.
Empowering Myself to Collaborate with Brands — Limiting Belief No.5 for Plus Size Content Creators
As we move into 2025, it’s essential for brands to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as a standard practice rather than an exception. Unfortunately, this is still an ongoing challenge. Nevertheless, I refuse to diminish my worth. When I pitch to brands as a plus-size content creator, I do so with confidence. My skills are valuable, but I also understand that mindset plays a crucial role. If you expect challenges, you will encounter them. This understanding doesn’t negate the real hurdles we face; instead, it highlights the importance of healing and growth. What about you?
