Paul McCartney Closes Tour with Ringo Starr and Ron Wood
Paul McCartney brought the curtain down on his spectacular 2024 Got Back world tour in London last night (December 19), delivering an unforgettable performance alongside legendary musicians Ringo Starr and Ron Wood. This thrilling concert featured a meticulously curated setlist that spanned over three hours and included a remarkable 36 songs, captivating fans with both beloved classics and new favorites.
During this memorable show, McCartney took a moment to share an emotional story about a bass guitar that was stolen from him more than 50 years ago. He proudly reintroduced the iconic 1961 Hofner 500/1, a guitar he had originally purchased brand new in Germany, highlighting its significance in early Beatles records and performances before it mysteriously disappeared in 1972. Thanks to a dedicated effort, this cherished instrument was finally returned to him in February.

With a sense of nostalgia, McCartney addressed the audience, saying, “I had a bass, besides this one. It got nicked. … We’ve been looking for it for 50 years. Well, I got it back, and here to make its first stage appearance in 50 years is my original bass!” The excitement in the venue was palpable as he plugged it in after decades, exclaiming, “Sounds like a bass!” To the audience’s delight, he then introduced a special guest: the legendary Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood!
Wood joined McCartney on stage, treating fans to a lively performance of the Beatles classic “Get Back,” a moment that can be enjoyed below. The collaboration between these rock icons created an electric atmosphere, showcasing the enduring bond of friendship and musical synergy that transcends generations.
As the concert reached its encore, McCartney had one more surprise for the crowd, announcing, “Bring to the stage the mighty, the one and only Mr. Ringo Starr!” The excitement crescendoed as the two legends playfully pretended to be unsure of what to do next, before McCartney quipped, “Should we rock? Get on your kit, la.” Their camaraderie was evident as they launched into two more timeless Beatles hits: “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)” and “Helter Skelter.” You can view these exhilarating performances below.
The Got Back tour commenced in April 2022, featuring a remarkable total of 59 shows across seven legs, including a standout appearance at the iconic Glastonbury festival in 2022.
