Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘SNL50’ Performance

In a remarkable showcase of musical talent, Paul Simon graced the stage during the SNL50: The Anniversary Special on Sunday night. Accompanying him was the talented pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter, as they delivered an enchanting version of the timeless classic ?Homeward Bound?, originally made famous by Simon & Garfunkel. This performance not only highlighted Simon’s enduring legacy but also introduced his music to a new generation of fans who may not be as familiar with his profound impact on the music industry.

Before diving into the heartfelt melody, Simon reminisced, sharing, “I sang this song with George Harrison on SNL in 1976.” Carpenter, showcasing her youthful charm, humorously replied, “I was not born then, and neither were my parents,” adding a light-hearted moment to the night. Although Simon announced his retirement from touring in 2018, his rare appearances continue to resonate deeply with audiences. He has faced challenges, including significant hearing loss, which has impacted his ability to perform live. Despite these difficulties, Simon has adapted, exploring new avenues to create music. In 2023, he released his 15th solo album, Seven Psalms, showcasing his resilience and creativity in the face of adversity.

Reflecting on his journey, Simon remarked, “It was scary, frustrating,” acknowledging the emotional turmoil of adapting to life with a disability. “You’re in denial and then you’re overwhelmed by this change in your life because you now have a disability. But even though it wasn’t pleasurable anymore, I started to think that this was some new information that I needed to absorb into the piece.
