Piper Horror Film Set for November Release
Directed by Anthony Waller and featuring the talented Elizabeth Hurley, the highly anticipated horror film Piper is set to thrill audiences with its release this November. Fans of the genre are buzzing with excitement as the film promises to deliver a gripping story intertwined with supernatural elements and folklore, making it a must-watch for horror enthusiasts.
It has been two long years since we first discovered that Elizabeth Hurley, known for her role in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, was set to star in the eerie film Piper. Following its world premiere at FrightFest over a year ago, the film is finally ready for a broader audience. Digital Media, the digital distribution arm of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has acquired the rights to Piper and will release it across all North American digital HD platforms, including cable and satellite, as well as on DVD, starting on November 12.
In 1995, director Waller made a significant mark in the thriller genre with Mute Witness. However, his follow-up, An American Werewolf in Paris, failed to capture the same acclaim. Since then, he has directed a few more films, including the 2000 thriller The Guilty and the 2009 sci-fi horror film 9 Miles Down. Many fans are hopeful that Piper will allow Waller to regain the positive attention he once enjoyed in the industry, especially with its unique blend of horror and folklore.
The screenplay for this gripping supernatural thriller has been crafted by Waller, based on a compelling story by Duncan Kennedy. Piper presents a dark and contemporary reimagining of the classic tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, where Hurley’s character faces off against a sinister, child-stealing folklore legend. The plot thickens as Émigré Liz (played by Hurley) relocates to a charming German town with her daughter, Amy, only to find herself targeted by the vengeful spirit of the Piper, who punishes those who have escaped justice by taking their children. As the tension escalates, the only chance for Amy’s survival rests in the hands of a young and enigmatic street magician named Luca. Can he rescue her from the clutches of the Piper?
Joining Hurley in this thrilling cast are notable actors such as Mia Jenkins from Hanna, Jack Stewart from Float, and Ryan Webber known for The Funhouse Massacre. The ensemble also includes Robert Daws from The Man Who Fell to Earth, Ieva Aleksandrova-Eklone from Out, and Arben Bajraktaraj from Taken. Additionally, newcomers Evija Koltone and Dominik Gabriel Roseti join the cast, along with Waller himself, promising a dynamic blend of talent that enhances the film’s dark and eerie atmosphere.
The upcoming release of Piper marks the second adaptation of the Pied Piper of Hamelin legend this year, following the earlier release of The Piper, featuring Julian Sands, which premiered in March. This surge of interest in the classic tale reimagined in horror form indicates a growing fascination with folklore and its modern interpretations.
