In a significant legal development, Jamichael Jones, the individual charged with the tragic shooting of Atlanta rapper Trouble, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after opting for a plea agreement. This decision comes in the wake of a potential trial that was set to commence following the completion of jury selection. Instead of facing the original charges, which included malice murder, felony murder, and several others, Jones accepted a plea deal that allowed him to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter, resulting in a reduced sentence.

The fatal incident involving Jones and Trouble, whose real name was Mariel Orr, occurred early on the morning of June 5, 2022. Reports from Fox5 indicate that Jones arrived at the apartment of his ex-girlfriend, where Trouble was present. During this altercation, Jones attacked the woman, leading to Orr’s intervention. Tragically, Jones shot Orr in the chest, and he was quickly transported to Rockdale County Piedmont Hospital, where he ultimately lost his life due to his injuries.

Following the incident, it was thanks to the efforts of his mother that Jones surrendered to the authorities, as highlighted by Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levette. He stated, “His mother was a huge resource in helping us apprehend him.” Since his arrest, Jones has remained in custody without the option for bail. His sentence will account for the time already served while awaiting trial, but there is currently no information regarding the possibility of parole. Trouble was a prominent figure in the Atlanta music scene and had actively campaigned against gun violence, famously organizing the event #GunsDownWatergunsUp in 2020, which received mixed reactions from the local community.
