Kevin Cronin has publicly expressed that he feels “disturbed and hurt” by his “deliberate exclusion” from the highly anticipated REO Speedwagon hometown reunion concert scheduled for June. This emotional response highlights his dedication to the band and the significance of the event.
On June 14, a remarkable lineup of six former members of the band will unite for a special “retrospective” concert in their birthplace of Champaign, Illinois. This extraordinary event promises not only to showcase their classic hits but will also feature guest performances and a heartfelt tribute segment in memory of the late Gary Richrath and Gregg Philbin. The concert’s proceeds are earmarked to support the REO Speedwagon Foundation, which focuses on research for genitourinary cancer at the renowned Moffitt Cancer Center.
Upon the announcement of this event, the absence of Cronin’s name raised eyebrows, and the former frontman voiced his frustration about being portrayed in a negative light regarding the situation.

Kevin Cronin’s Reaction to His Exclusion from the REO Speedwagon Reunion
Cronin took to social media to address his exclusion from the reunion event, responding to a recent Facebook post that also announced his participation in the upcoming 2026 Rock Legends Cruise. In his comments, he stated, “The organizers of the Champaign event could have chosen a date that allowed all former members of REO Speedwagon to attend.” He emphasized that June 14, 2025, was already known to be a date when he had prior commitments with Styx and the Kevin Cronin Band in Bend, Oregon. This led him to feel unjustly accused of rejecting an invitation he never received due to scheduling conflicts. “I am deeply disturbed and hurt by all of this,” he concluded.
Cronin further articulated his feelings by stating, “After all the contributions I have made to solidify the legacy of REO Speedwagon, I believe I have earned the right to be included in events that celebrate that legacy. Instead, I find myself being excluded.” He also expressed disappointment that fellow long-time members Dave Amato and Bryan Hitt were also overlooked and not invited to the Champaign concert.

The Evolution of Kevin Cronin’s Career Post-REO Speedwagon
In late 2024, REO Speedwagon announced a sudden cessation of their touring activities, citing “irreconcilable differences” related to Bruce Hall‘s delayed return to the stage. This decision marked a significant turning point for the band and its loyal fans.
Despite these changes, Cronin is committed to keeping the essence of the band’s music alive as he tours with the same group that performed at their last show in December. He described his first performance after the hiatus as an “exciting, albeit bittersweet” experience, emphasizing the emotional connection he has with the music and the audience.
This spring and summer, Cronin will be on tour alongside Styx and Don Felder, performing the iconic album Hi Infidelity in its entirety, ensuring that the legacy of REO Speedwagon continues to resonate with both old fans and new audiences.
