In a recent revelation, Candice Night, the wife of legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, disclosed that the former Deep Purple member experienced a heart attack in 2023, significantly impacting his music career. This health scare has unfortunately put a halt to his performances, leading to a challenging period for both Ritchie and Candice. Doctors have advised the 79-year-old musician against flying, citing concerns for his health, and Candice mentioned that he is also grappling with various other medical issues. This situation has resulted in some tension between the couple as they navigate their future together.

“Ritchie has actually been instructed by his cardiologist to avoid air travel,” Night shared during a recent interview with Total Rock (video below). “He suffered a heart attack approximately a year and a half ago and currently has six stents in place.” This alarming health situation has understandably raised concerns for both Ritchie and his fans, as his remarkable career has been put on pause.

Candice expressed disbelief that Ritchie will reach the milestone age of 80 on April 14th, noting, “It’s unbelievable! He doesn’t look or act his age, but eventually, health challenges catch up with everyone.” This sentiment underscores the reality that even iconic musicians face the consequences of aging and health struggles as time goes on.

Moreover, Night revealed that Ritchie is also contending with gout, arthritis, and chronic back issues that have plagued him for many years. “These ailments are making it increasingly difficult for him,” she reflected. “I’ve witnessed younger individuals than him performing on stage, even in wheelchairs, doing what they love. She chuckled, adding, “We often have these discussions, or perhaps I should say arguments – I’ll refer to them as discussions! Recently, after visiting his cardiologist, the advice was clear: ‘Let’s postpone any travel by plane for now.’ It’s my hope that we can resolve these issues soon, allowing Ritchie to return to what he loves most.”
