Rock and Metal Playlist Insights on Your In-Flight Habits
Have you ever thought about how your favorite hard rock or metal music playlists might influence your choices during air travel? Recent research conducted by Jettly involving a survey of 1,000 American travelers provides fascinating insights into the connection between your music preferences and your flying habits.
This study uncovers noteworthy patterns regarding how your musical tastes can shape your airline preferences and even your budgetary choices while flying. Discover how your playlist not only sets the mood for your journey but may also reflect your travel decisions.
Exploring Airline Preferences Among Rock and Metal Enthusiasts
Interestingly, despite sharing a love for heavier musical styles, rock fans and metal enthusiasts demonstrate distinct preferences when it comes to selecting airlines. According to the findings from the Jettly survey, an impressive 23 percent of rock listeners favored Delta Airlines as their preferred carrier. In contrast, 22 percent of metal fans opted for American Airlines as their top choice for air travel, showcasing the unique tendencies within these musical communities.
The survey also highlighted that 5 percent of metal aficionados expressed a preference for the cost-effective option of Spirit Airlines, indicating a willingness to prioritize budget-friendly travel solutions over brand loyalty.
Your Musical Tastes and Their Impact on Your Flight Budget
The survey results reveal an intriguing trend: metal fans are the most inclined among music genre enthusiasts to choose budget airlines. Notably, 16 percent of metal fans are all about economical travel, which explains why 5 percent chose Spirit Airlines for their airborne adventures. This choice reflects a broader attitude towards seeking value in their travel expenditures.
Despite this inclination towards budget-friendly options, the study uncovered that a significant 70 percent of metalheads still prefer to fly with major airlines, specifically in the economy section. When it comes to premium experiences, only 12 percent showed interest in premium economy or business class, while a mere 2 percent expressed a desire for a first-class or private jet experience.
On the other hand, rock enthusiasts displayed a similar trend, with 75 percent preferring the economy section of major airlines. Interestingly, only 13 percent were inclined to fly with budget airlines. Additionally, 10 percent of rock fans were interested in the premium economy/business class offerings, while just 2 percent sought out first-class or private jet experiences.

When it comes to seating preferences, metal fans tend to prioritize having a window seat, with 72 percent expressing a strong desire for the view and personal space it provides. Surprisingly, 4 percent of metal fans are not deterred by the discomfort of a middle seat, showing a unique willingness to compromise for their flying experience.
Top Rock and Metal Artists That Make Your Flights Enjoyable
As for in-flight music choices, the Jettly study identified Taylor Swift as the most listened-to artist, followed closely by Drake, Beyonce, Coldplay, and The Beatles. This aligns with the finding that 45 percent of respondents preferred pop playlists during their flights, illustrating a strong inclination towards mainstream music.
Rock music was the second most popular genre among travelers, with 32 percent eager to rock out during their flights. The top rock artists preferred by these travelers included The Beatles, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, and U2, indicating a blend of classic and contemporary rock influences.
Despite only 8 percent of respondents favoring metal music during flights, notable bands such as Metallica, Pantera, System of a Down, and Tool emerged as the most frequently included artists in metal playlists for air travel.
Interestingly, metal fans lead the trend of curating personal playlists over relying on airline-provided entertainment. Among metal-loving participants, an impressive 74.1 percent reported downloading their own playlists for flights, while 15.7 percent enjoyed switching between their curated selections and in-flight options. Moreover, 5.4 percent utilized in-flight streaming services, and 4.8 percent chose not to engage with any music or audio applications during their flights.
