Season 2 Episode 7 Recap of Bad Sisters
Editor’s note: The below recap contains spoilers for Bad Sisters Season 2 Episode 7.
As the much-anticipated second season of Bad Sisters unfolds, viewers were hopeful that the Garvey sisters had finally escaped the toxic entanglements that plagued their past. Each sister was striving to create a fresh start, but it soon becomes clear that trusting Grace’s (Anne-Marie Duff) questionable judgment in men may lead to disastrous consequences. Last week, suspicions arose regarding Ian (Owen McDonnell), suggesting Angelica (Fiona Shaw) might be onto something. This week, the episode starkly reveals that the Garveys are once again ensnared by a sinister figure who has infiltrated their lives, demonstrating just how hard it is to escape their turbulent history.
Eva Unveils Ian’s Deception in ‘Bad Sisters’ Season 2 Episode 7
The episode begins with Eva (Sharon Horgan) out for a run when she receives a shocking notification from Dublin City Bank: “The transfer request from Blanaid Williams’ Child Saver Account has now been completed.” This revelation confirms Ian’s manipulative scheme that was hinted at in the previous episode. He had cleverly persuaded Eva to add his name to Blanaid’s (Saise Quinn) account, allowing him to siphon off the funds into his own account. Desperate to reach Ian, Eva attempts to call him, but he ignores her frantic pleas. Upon arriving at his residence, she is met with the unsettling sight of an empty space—Ian has vanished without a trace. Meanwhile, Ian is seen deliberately rejecting her calls and entering a police station to anonymously submit a package. Later, Detective Una Houlihan (Thaddea Graham) opens the envelope to uncover a flash drive, which contains incriminating footage of the sisters and Angelica boarding a boat at the marina. In a shocking twist, Ian has betrayed the Garveys.
Eva checks in to ensure Blanaid has arrived safely at camogie practice, relieved to hear everything is fine. However, her relief is short-lived when she receives a call from Ursula. Rushing to the police station, she learns that all her sisters have been arrested. Detective Houlihan interrogates Bibi (Sarah Greene), Ursula (Eva Birthistle), and Becka (Eve Hewson) one by one, but they all feign ignorance about Angelica’s whereabouts. Frustration mounts for Houlihan as she struggles to extract information, when suddenly, Detective Fergal Loftus (Barry Ward) interrupts, revealing that Angelica has been found alive! He chides Houlihan for “chasing nothing,” declaring the investigation officially closed. The sisters are released, and as soon as Eva exits the station, she rushes to the bank for confirmation. To her horror, she discovers that Blanaid’s account has been drained, with Ian transferring a staggering $100,000 to himself—a transaction she inadvertently authorized by adding him to the account.
Once reunited, Eva confides in her sisters about the devastating reality of Ian’s betrayal, admitting, “He cleaned out the account and I got played.” She realizes they cannot involve the police due to Ian’s extensive knowledge of their circumstances. The sisters begin to piece together the puzzle, with Eva speculating, “Grace must have figured out he was just using her too,” and that the money withdrawn from the bank wasn’t meant for Angelica, but rather a payoff to Ian. Ursula volunteers to reach out to Angelica to gather more information about what transpired on the boat, hoping to buy them some time.
Angelica’s Survival Marks a Sudden Turn in ‘Bad Sisters’ Season 2 Episode 7
In a shocking twist, Angelica is revealed to be severely injured in the hospital. The sailboat boom that struck her in Episode 5 has left her with significant bruising and a deep gash on her forehead. The miraculous aspect of her survival is that she was only submerged in the water for three hours before being rescued. When Ursula arrives at the hospital, Angelica initially displays signs of fear. Roger (Michael Smiley) informs Ursula that “she remembers getting on a boat with you and then nothing.” Ursula takes the time to explain the accident, clarifying that Becka nearly drowned while trying to find her. When Roger questions why they didn’t disclose Angelica’s true whereabouts to him or the police, Ursula admits, “Ian convinced us not to… he said we’d get done for murder.” Roger is left skeptical of her explanation and asks her to leave, casting doubt on Ursula’s credibility.
Detective Houlihan makes her way to the hospital to follow up on the investigation. During a poignant encounter with Angelica, she notes with sadness that Grace would have baked her a cake after her accident, highlighting their shared experiences of grief that forged their friendship. However, when Houlihan presses Angelica about Ian’s role in the bereavement group, Angelica reveals a shocking truth: she never believed Ian had a deceased sister at all.
The Garvey Sisters Take Matters Into Their Own Hands in Season 2 Episode 7
The Garvey sisters are determined to confront Ian, seeking answers and possibly reclaiming Blanaid’s lost funds. Becka is tasked with finding Joe (Peter Claffey) to see if he has any leads on Ian’s whereabouts. However, their meeting at the local pub takes a hostile turn. When Becka asks to play pool, Joe snaps, “I think I’m done playing games with you.” Their conversation quickly escalates into bickering, revealing Joe’s lingering hurt over Becka’s withdrawal and her failure to disclose her pregnancy. After a heated exchange, during which Becka accidentally shatters glasses behind the bar, they’re kicked out. Despite the tension, it’s clear that Joe still harbors feelings for Becka, especially when she informs him she’s keeping the baby. As their argument unfolds, Joe poignantly remarks, “You Garveys really know how to pick a prick,” highlighting his frustration with the family’s choices. He storms off, leaving Becka without the assistance she sought.
Back at their home, the sisters gather, visibly concerned about Eva’s declining state, particularly her drinking. Eva laments, “I know what you’re all thinking. What kind of an excuse for a woman shags her dead sister’s husband?” However, her sisters encourage her to be kinder to herself and to cut back on the alcohol. Yet, Eva insists, “I’m not drunk, just broken.” Just when hope seems lost, Joe reappears, providing them with crucial information about Ian’s gambling habits. This revelation prompts Bibi and Becka to track down Roger at the pub, knowing he shares a gambling interest. They apologize for Angelica’s accident and plead for his assistance in locating Ian. Roger expresses understanding, stating that “hurt people hurt,” and agrees to help, remembering he saw Ian at the horse races. “Girls, you had me at honor Grace,” he adds, showcasing his willingness to support the sisters in their time of need.
The sisters make their way to the horse races, a nostalgic callback to Episode 1 of this season. However, the atmosphere is drastically different now that Ian has tainted their once joyful memories. They inquire about Ian, and at one point, Eva believes she spots him, only to realize it was merely someone resembling him. Roger successfully gathers intel, revealing Ian’s true identity: his real name is Cormac, and he hails from Tyrone.
