This means that the majority of the second season is set in 2023, approximately three years after Gi-hun’s initial tournament. This considerable passage of time allows him to gather intelligence, albeit not much, and to physically prepare himself for the challenges ahead.
Both Gi-hun and Jun-ho obsessively contemplate the events on the island and the Games throughout the three years that separate the seasons.
This timeline also provides Jun-ho the opportunity to return to Seoul and recuperate from the injury sustained at the conclusion of season 1. Both characters, Gi-hun and Jun-ho, spend much of their time during these three years fixating on the island and the harrowing Games. It is perplexing that it takes them a significant amount of time to actively pursue justice. Thankfully, Squid Game season 2 propels them forward, continuing their gripping narratives after this three-year hiatus.
