Secret Level is set for its grand premiere on Prime Video on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. On this exciting day, viewers can look forward to the release of the first eight episodes, with an additional seven episodes scheduled to drop exactly one week later, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. In an insightful interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, executive producers Tim Miller and Dave Wilson elaborated on their release strategy, emphasizing the importance of building anticipation and viewer engagement:

“15 is not divisible by two. It’s two drops. The main reason, for a variety of reasons, is I like the idea of the show building a little momentum. Hopefully, there’s word of mouth, and people can come back. But also — I think it was you that told me — that’s been established as best practices.”

The official trailer for Secret Level was made available on November 13, showcasing stunning visuals that capture the imagination. This exhilarating trailer offers fans their first look at numerous iconic video game characters that will appear in this groundbreaking animated anthology series. The cast features an array of Hollywood luminaries, including Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator franchise), Kevin Hart (Jumanji), Keanu Reeves (John Wick), Temuera Morrison (The Book of Boba Fett), Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), Heaven Hart, Emily Swallow (The Mandalorian), Gabriel Luna (The Last of Us), Ricky Whittle (Land of Bad), Patrick Schwarzenegger (The White Lotus), Merle Dandridge (The Last of Us), Claudia Doumit (The Boys), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost, The Union), Clive Standen (The Morning Show), Laura Bailey (The Legend of Vox Machina), and Michael Beach (Tulsa King). However, some critiques have emerged regarding the series, as noted by Collider’s Ross Bonaime in his review:

“Unfortunately,
many of
Secret Level
‘s worst episodes are basically advertisements for games
, without focusing too much on creating a self-contained narrative. “Honor of Kings: The Way of All Things” serves as a promotional piece for a game that recently launched in the U.S., while “Crossfire: Good Conflict” tries to immerse viewers in its world as a way to showcase the gameplay within its story of two conflicting factions, neither of which perceives themselves as the antagonists.”

Each of these episodes appears to be positioning itself as the next franchise that could be developed into a full series. In a way, Secret Level feels reminiscent of Amazon’s Pilot Season program, where audiences voted on which TV pilots should be turned into series, leading to early successes like Transparent and Man in the High Castle. Now, through the platform that has successfully expanded Fallout to a broader audience, this series at times gives the impression of studios pushing the notion that their adaptations could be the next big hit. “Mega Man: Start” provides an origin story for the beloved Blue Bomber, while “Sifu: It Takes a Life” is so brief that it almost feels like a teaser meant to entice viewers with what could be in a full episode.

Created by the brilliant minds behind LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS, each of the 15 episodes celebrates the art of gaming and the culture surrounding gamers.”
