Sex Pistols’ 22-Year Hiatus Ends with North American Tour

After an exciting summer tour across the U.K. and Europe, the iconic Sex Pistols are set to ignite the North American concert scene. Notably, this tour will proceed without their original lead singer, Johnny Rotten. This marks their much-anticipated return to the continent after 22 years, during which they will perform their legendary album Never Mind the Bollocks in its entirety, delivering a nostalgic experience for fans and newcomers alike.

The upcoming shows, featuring original band members Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock alongside Frank Carter as the new vocalist, are set to kick off in mid-September and will span four weeks. This tour represents the Sex Pistols’ first appearance in the U.S. since 2003, promising an electric atmosphere that will resonate with punk rock enthusiasts.

The legendary punk rock group reunited last year, welcoming Frank Carter, who is known for leading the English band Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes. In stark contrast, John Lydon, famously known as Johnny Rotten, has chosen not to participate in any of the recent projects involving his former bandmates, which included a 2022 television series that sparked much discussion among fans.

Initially conceived as a one-off reunion for the three original members alongside Carter, the tour has evolved into a full-fledged series of performances that is currently captivating audiences across Europe. The band is performing their only studio album, the acclaimed 1977 release Never Mind the Bollocks Here’s the Sex Pistols, in full, along with a selection of other beloved tracks from their catalog.

While discussing the current tour, Lydon has expressed his feelings candidly, labeling the shows as “karaoke.” He remarked, “When I first heard that the Sex Pistols were touring this year without me, it really pissed me off. It annoyed me greatly. My immediate thought was that they are going to destroy everything that made the Pistols special by stripping away the essence and meaning behind it all.”
