Roommates, it appears that Sexyy Red has stirred controversy with the King family. On Monday, January 20, the rapper posted an AI-generated image of Martin Luther King Jr. on her social media platforms to honor his legacy on his holiday. However, Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. King, made it abundantly clear that she was not pleased with Sexyy’s choice of imagery!
Not only did she publicly call out the rapper on January 21, but Bernice also urged her to remove the AI-generated image, expressing her discontent with its portrayal.
?This is intentionally distasteful, dishonoring, deplorable, and disrespectful to my family and my father, who is not here to respond himself because he was assassinated for working for your civil and human rights and to end war and poverty. Please delete,? Bernice King stated on X (formerly Twitter).
As previously mentioned, the AI-generated image featured Sexyy Red and Martin Luther King Jr. in a seemingly intimate setting, holding hands and gazing at one another. It’s worth noting that the post?s caption remains unclear, as by Tuesday evening, it seems that the rapper has deleted the image from her account. Swipe below to view the picture.
That wasn’t the only contentious image Sexyy Red shared that day. She also posted another AI-generated picture portraying her beside Martin Luther King Jr. at a fictional protest. Her accompanying caption read, ?Happy MLK Day!!? This particular post remains accessible on her X profile and continues to draw attention.

Bernice King Responds to Misinterpretations of Her Comments on Sexyy Red
Shortly after her initial statement, Bernice King returned to clarify her position, addressing the misunderstandings surrounding her words. She emphasized that her comments were not aimed at personally attacking Sexyy Red; rather, she expressed her discomfort with the AI-generated image of her father and similar portrayals that can lead to confusion.
?Please don?t project your thoughts onto me. I don?t believe Sexyy Red to be a ?degenerate,? ?ghetto,? or ?trash.? I have spoken out in the past about the use of and comparison to either of my parents to denigrate other people. I just don?t understand this type of use of my father?s image (on #MLKDay, no less) in a way that does not convey what we know to be true about his service and sacrifice. Even if you disagree with him or with his tactics or even believe things said about him by people who hated him, why do this??

Despite complying with Bernice King’s request to remove the controversial image, Sexyy Red has yet to publicly respond to the call-out. Instead, she has continued her regular posting activities on X and other social media platforms, even engaging with a special request from Bruno Mars!
