The frontman and guitarist of Puddle of Mudd, Wes Scantlin, was taken into custody last Tuesday, March 11, in Torrance, California, due to serious allegations of felony domestic abuse and drug possession, as reported by various sources.
Details Surrounding Wes Scantlin’s Arrest
On March 15, reports emerged from TMZ highlighting Scantlin’s arrest, stating he allegedly became physical with his girlfriend during an altercation. According to law enforcement officials who provided information to the outlet, police were dispatched to an apartment just after 3 AM on Tuesday. Upon their arrival, they interviewed both Scantlin and his girlfriend, discovering that a verbal disagreement escalated to a physical confrontation.
In their coverage, TMZ elaborated:
Our sources indicate that police observed visible injuries on the woman’s arms, leading to Scantlin’s arrest. Additionally, during a search, officers reportedly found a small quantity of a controlled substance in his possession. Consequently, Scantlin was charged with felony domestic violence and possession of a controlled substance, and he remains in the Los Angeles County Jail with a bail set at $90,000.
Following this incident, a variety of media outlets, including Stereogum, People magazine, Consequence, Metal Injection, and NME, picked up the story. People magazine revealed that Scantlin was apprehended shortly after 4:00 AM local time and processed into jail around 5:12 AM, according to their access to jail records. He was released on Saturday, March 15, after posting bail.
They further reported that Scantlin has two upcoming court dates scheduled for March 28 and April 15, according to the records they reviewed.
Both TMZ and People magazine have attempted to obtain comments from Scantlin’s representatives but have yet to receive any responses. As of now, neither Scantlin nor Puddle of Mudd has shared any statements regarding this situation on their social media platforms.

Insights into Wes Scantlin’s Recent Challenges with Puddle of Mudd
Earlier this month, Loudwire covered Scantlin’s claims regarding his troubled performance at a benefit concert at the Broken Spoke Saloon on March 1. He alleged that his former bandmate, Sean Sammon, drugged him before the show, which led to numerous sound issues and reports of Scantlin appearing “stumbling and rambling about Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst” while on stage.
The following day, a fan approached Scantlin outside the venue, recording a video where they inquired about the prior night’s events. Scantlin responded, while expressing his frustration by flipping the camera the middle finger: “I suck, I suck and I suck … but I was roofied. My old bass player Sean Sammon roofied me last night, so he can go fuck his ass.”
In a separate incident reported by Loudwire in August 2024, Scantlin faced legal trouble again when he was arrested on July 31 after a traffic stop escalated into a tense standoff with the police.
Loudwire further detailed:
According to TMZ, the singer was taken into custody last Wednesday, July 31, after Burbank police pulled him over while driving his black Hummer H2. Initially stopped for a traffic violation, officers discovered that Scantlin had an outstanding warrant related to a previous case involving an alleged weapon possession at an airport.
When officers instructed Scantlin to exit his vehicle, he refused to comply. Despite multiple requests, police were compelled to use pepper spray to encourage him to leave the car. When that did not succeed, TMZ reported that SWAT was summoned to break his window and utilize a PepperBall® to persuade him to exit the vehicle.
As a result of this incident, Scantlin was booked for the outstanding warrant, and an additional charge of resisting arrest was also filed. He is expected to appear in court on August 20.
This recent arrest, alongside the domestic abuse and drug possession charges from last week, marks just two of many legal issues Scantlin has encountered over the past decade.
