The legendary Spinal Tap amps now go beyond 11!
The highly anticipated sequel, Spinal Tap II, to the iconic 1984 rock mockumentary This is Spinal Tap, is officially set to premiere on September 12. Fans of the original will be thrilled to see how the band evolves in this new chapter.
Bleecker Street is taking on the U.S. distribution for this exciting new film, ensuring it reaches audiences nationwide.
A sneak peek teaser for the movie, embedded below, showcases the band gearing up for a live performance, humorously revealing an amplifier volume knob that now surpasses “11,” extending into… infinity.
Original members David St. Hubbins (played by Michael McKean), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) are confirmed to return for this new installment. Joining them are legendary rock icons Paul McCartney and Elton John, adding even more star power to the film.
Returning cast members also include Paul Shaffer as Artie Fufkin and Fran Drescher as Bobbi Flekman, promising to deliver nostalgic laughs. Fans can also anticipate the return of one or more unfortunate drummers who are likely to meet their comedic fate.

In December, director and co-writer Rob Reiner shared that Spinal Tap II will depict the once-retired band unexpectedly reuniting after finding themselves back in the limelight. “A major music star, during a sound check, accidentally records themselves singing a Spinal Tap song on an iPhone,” he revealed to Empire. “This footage goes viral on social media, reigniting their fame.”
Audiences can also look forward to new music from Spinal Tap. “There will be a couple of tracks featuring Elton John and one from Paul McCartney—songs they perform in the film that aren’t typical of Spinal Tap but are well-known,” he added. “The remainder will be all-new material from the band.”
Additionally, fans should stay tuned for a nationwide re-release of the original This Is Spinal Tap movie, set to hit theaters this summer, with more details to follow soon.
