Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Ghosts season 4, episode 15, “The Bachelorette Party.”
In the captivating universe of Ghosts, one character’s spirit abilities are frequently overlooked. However, season 4, episode 15 showcased the extraordinary utility of these skills when wielded effectively. The ensemble of ghosts inhabiting CBS’s Ghosts is a fascinating mix of contrasting personalities, each complemented by their own peculiar supernatural abilities. The residents of the Woodstone Mansion are endowed with unique powers, and even those who have yet to discover their abilities can anticipate eventual revelations about their capabilities.
Take Hetty, for instance, who only realized she could be visible to the living on St. Patrick’s Day in season 4, episode 16, titled “St. Hetty’s Day.” Similarly, Pete was unaware of his ability to leave the mansion grounds and travel globally until season 3. Sass’s narratives in Ghosts season 4 primarily revolved around his revelation in season 3 that he can enter the dreams of the living. While these remarkable powers sometimes overshadow the seemingly simpler abilities of other ghosts, season 4, episode 15, “The Bachelorette Party,” illustrated that every power has its value.
Discovering the Hidden Value of Alberta’s Abilities in Ghosts
Alberta’s Abilities Shine in Ghosts Season 4 Episode 15
In the episode “The Bachelorette Party,” Alberta’s initial mistrust of musicians and a miscommunication led her to wrongly suspect that her descendant’s fiancé was being unfaithful. After enlisting Sass to infiltrate her dream and alert her to potential infidelity, Alberta was horrified to learn she was in fact mistaken. She hurried to set the record straight for her distressed descendant. Despite her inability to communicate verbally with the living, Alberta skillfully employs her humming ability to connect with her living descendant, offering reassurance and ultimately salvaging her engagement.
The effectiveness of ghostly powers largely depends on how the spirits choose to utilize them rather than the powers themselves.
Alberta’s ability may appear less glamorous compared to the more spectacular supernatural skills boasted by the show’s characters, especially after the introduction of Patience the Puritan in season 4, who can make walls bleed human blood. Furthermore, the new character Chris demonstrated a remarkable ability to fly anywhere in the world at will, seemingly outshining the entire cast. However, Alberta’s poignant application of her powers during this episode highlighted a crucial message: it is the manner in which ghosts apply their abilities that truly matters, rather than the sheer flashiness of the powers themselves.

Ghosts Season 4, Episode 14 Avoided A Sitcom Trend I Hate, And I Hope It Continues To Do So
Ghosts season 4 episode 14 surprised me by avoiding an annoying sitcom storytelling trend, and I hope the show continues with its new approach.
Alberta successfully established a deeper connection with her living descendant, ultimately aiding in the preservation of her marriage. While it’s true that Alberta initially jeopardized her engagement by meddling in the affairs of her descendant, it’s important to acknowledge that her abilities, though not the flashiest among the cast, were crucial in this scenario. In contrast, the narratives surrounding Trevor in season 4 illustrated that his seemingly impressive powers could also lead to complications rather than benefits, while Alberta’s story exemplified how she could harness her powers to their fullest potential.
Alberta’s Real Abilities Showcased in Ghosts Season 4, Episode 15
Comparing Alberta’s Abilities to Other Ghost Characters in Ghosts
Alberta’s skills may not be as dramatic as those of Pete and Trevor, yet they resonate uniquely with her due to her background as a nightclub performer, which taught her how a simple melody can significantly influence someone’s mood and perspective on life. In contrast, Pete, who was a travel agent during his lifetime, utilizes his newfound ability to travel globally, which is unsurprising given his past experiences. However, it’s noteworthy that Pete unwittingly became involved with his wife’s mob family, highlighting the complexity of his character.
Trevor’s skill could allow him to almost live like a sheltered human, but his unrestrained ambition and penchant for scheming often lead to chaos.
Unbeknownst to him, the travel agency he worked for was entangled with a mafia-related money-laundering scheme, making Pete an unwitting pawn in their operations. My least favorite character from Ghosts, Carol, eventually expressed remorse for dragging Pete into this criminal world, yet he still ended up using his power to date someone with a murderous background due to his persistent naivety. Similarly, Trevor possesses a skill that could permit him to live a life akin to a sheltered human; however, his relentless ambition and love of manipulation frequently spiral into chaos.

Ghosts Season 4 Reveals the Utility of Spirit Abilities in Various Contexts
Trevor’s capability to type and navigate a computer can yield numerous advantages; however, in season 4 alone, this skill has led to a significant conflict between Jay and his sister Bela, as well as inadvertently complicating Jay’s life by attempting to bribe a restaurant critic. This scenario emphasizes that the true value of a ghost’s power ultimately hinges on their choices and the intent behind their actions.

Much like Ghosts season 4’s Isaac storyline illustrated the character’s need for growth following his failed engagement in season 3, “The Bachelorette Party” revealed the remarkable potential of even the most understated ghost powers when utilized effectively. After watching Ghosts season 4, episode 15, it is difficult to envision any ghost dismissing Alberta’s abilities again, regardless of how limited they might initially appear.
