Snow White is currently facing a catastrophic second weekend at the box office, while Jason Statham showcases unexpected strength with his latest film.

The opening weekend of Snow White has turned into a major talking point this week, with many attributing its poor performance to the contentious reception of Rachel Zegler, who appears to have alienated potential viewers from this high-budget remake. Despite hopes for a strong recovery reminiscent of Mufasa, the film is witnessing a staggering 68% drop in its second weekend according to Deadline. The projections indicate that it will earn around $13 million, which falls significantly short of our earlier estimates by $7 million. This disappointing outcome has left many disheartened, as expectations for a better retention rate were higher.
In a contrasting turn of events, Snow White’s struggles have opened the door for Jason Statham, whose film, A Working Man, is projected to achieve a robust $15 million in its opening weekend. This figure is impressively close to the performance of The Beekeeper, which debuted during a holiday weekend last year. Although the film received a B CinemaScore, which is not particularly stellar, Statham has cultivated a dedicated fanbase. Given its modest production budget, A Working Man is poised to become a valuable title in the streaming library for Amazon/MGM. While it may not replicate the success of The Beekeeper, which soared to a $66 million domestic total, it does illustrate that there remains a significant audience for traditional action films, as evidenced by the earlier success of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. Viewers continue to gravitate towards classic, action-packed cinema.
Universal’s latest Blumhouse production, The Woman in the Yard, is performing consistently with the studio’s usual metrics, anticipating a $9 million opening, which is quite respectable given current market conditions. Conversely, A24 is experiencing its second consecutive box office disappointment, as the star-studded film Death of a Unicorn is projected to open in the $5 million range. This is particularly unfortunate for a film featuring well-known talents like Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega. Aside from A Working Man, the only other new release that has demonstrated any strength is another set of episodes from The Chosen, specifically The Last Supper – Part 1, which is on track to achieve a commendable $12 million.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s comprehensive box office update!
