This exciting project was recorded over an intense and creative period of 20 days, beginning in October 2023. The highly anticipated album made its debut through Interscope Records on Friday, April 4, captivating fans with its fresh sound and heartfelt lyrics.
Their creative synergy shines through as the duo worked closely with Bernie Taupin, Elton’s long-standing co-writer, and acclaimed producer Andrew Watt. Who Believes in Angels? includes previously released singles such as “Swing for the Fences,” “Never Too Late,” and the titular track, showcasing a blend of their unique styles and emotional storytelling that resonates deeply with listeners.
Reflecting on this collaborative journey, Elton John expressed, “As my Farewell tour came to an end, I knew I wanted to create a new album with Brandi. I felt a strong desire to shift gears and explore something different from anything I’d done before.” He continued, “Brandi has always inspired me; our friendship is incredibly close, and I instinctively believed we could produce something truly exceptional. The process of creating Who Believes in Angels? was filled with challenges and moments of self-doubt, but with the incredible support of Bernie Taupin and Andrew Watt, we managed to write 10 songs in 20 days, making it one of the most joyous and exhilarating experiences of my life.”
To celebrate their album release, the talented duo is scheduled to perform on Saturday Night Live this weekend (April 5) as musical guests. Following this, they will host a special one-hour concert event titled An Evening With Elton John and Brandi Carlile, airing on CBS on Sunday, April 6, from 8-9 p.m. ET/PT. This special will also be available for streaming on Paramount+ and will feature captivating live performances, heartfelt stories about their friendship, and an intimate glimpse into the creative process behind Who Believes in Angels?.
