The Brotherhood of Rock tour is scheduled to kick off on May 28 in Greenville, SC, with the grand finale taking place on August 24 in Milwaukee, WI. “It’s going to be an incredible experience,” expresses Styx’s charismatic vocalist and guitarist, Tommy Shaw, in an interview with UCR. “We’re bringing together so much great music, and it’s all from wonderful people we genuinely enjoy being around. This tour embodies a true brotherhood that we’ve cherished for many years.”
This marks a significant milestone for Cronin, as it will be his first tour sharing the stage with Styx under his own name. Earlier this fall, the talented singer-songwriter shocked fans with the announcement of his retirement from the REO Speedwagon brand at the conclusion of 2024, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason. Despite this, Cronin shares a rich history with the iconic Midwestern rockers, having toured together on multiple occasions during his time with REO. “Being from Chicago, we have a longstanding connection. All the original Styx members hail from the same city. Our paths crossed back in high school when we were rivals on the South Side of Chicago. They were a few years ahead of us, and they had the edge with their music and their charm,” Cronin reminisced during an interview with UCR in 2021.
In a heartfelt discussion, Cronin elaborated on his gratitude for the opportunity to join Styx on stage for a sixth tour, nearly 25 years after their inaugural collaboration in 2000 during the Arch Allies trek. “It feels like a wonderful stroke of luck,” he notes. “We’re calling this tour the Brotherhood of Rock because it truly represents that spirit. I’m incredibly thankful to Tommy Shaw and the entire Styx team for their unwavering belief in me.”
Both Cronin and Shaw expressed deep admiration for the Eagles’ albums, highlighting the immense impact of Don Felder’s guitar prowess and songwriting contributions during his tenure with the legendary California band. Felder reciprocated the compliments, sharing his own appreciation for their remarkable work.
“What excites me most about this tour is the extensive catalog of hits from all three bands,” Felder shared with UCR. “We’re in for a night filled with non-stop hits. In the past, we’ve had some memorable grand finales on certain nights when we were feeling inspired, and it’s always a blast. I can’t wait for the fun we’re going to have!”
While the spotlight will shine on their classic hits throughout the tour, all three artists are actively working on new music. Felder anticipates releasing his upcoming album just before the tour kicks off, while Shaw is thrilled about the new material Styx is developing, with plans for a release around 2025. Cronin is still mapping out his future musical projects but is eager to complete a song he recently collaborated on with Richard Marx.
