Understanding the Limited Tour Schedule for System of a Down
System of a Down has significantly reduced their touring schedule over the past few years. Initially, this was partly due to lead singer Serj Tankian’s recovery from surgery, but Tankian has also expressed his lack of interest in extensive touring. He believes that long tours can become not only physically taxing but also creatively repetitive.
“I love performing, but… I think when you do a long tour, it’s not just physically exhausting, but it’s artistically redundant after a while, repeating the same thing. That’s why we’re really enjoying doing these one-offs; they’re special events, special occasions. We can’t do them everywhere, and we can’t do them all the time,” Tankian shared during an interview with LiveSigning while discussing his recent memoir, Down With the System.

Despite the more relaxed touring schedule, Tankian has found renewed excitement in performing live. “Performing becomes fun again, in a way, and I had kind of lost that,” he added, highlighting the joy that comes from these unique concert experiences.
