Travis Japan Discusses New Singles and Upcoming World Tour

As we move into 2025, Travis Japan is making significant strides in both their home country and the international stage, boldly embracing new challenges across the globe. This dynamic boy band is currently on a promotional tour for their highly-anticipated second album, VIIsual, which achieved the remarkable feat of topping the Billboard Japan Hot Albums chart following its December release. In January, they launched their domestic concert series, the Travis Japan Concert Tour 2025 VIIsual, covering eight major cities throughout Japan. Looking ahead, the group is also gearing up for a summer tour across Asia and the United States as part of their second global journey.

Recently, Billboard Japan had the opportunity to speak with the six vibrant members of the group (with Noel currently on a health-related hiatus) about their growth and collaborative learning experiences. During the interview, they discussed the compelling appeal of their latest tracks, “Say I do” and “Tokyo Crazy Night.” The group also took a reflective look back at their world tour last year, which spanned six cities globally, sharing valuable insights and memorable takeaways from this transformative experience.

Reflecting on the Thrills and Challenges of Your First World Tour, Travis Japan World Tour 2024 Road to A

Shizu: Our journey took us through six cities around the globe, promoting our inaugural album, Road to A. This tour allowed us to engage with our fans in ways we had never imagined outside of Japan. Each venue, while not particularly large, provided a unique opportunity for us to showcase the distinctive charm of Travis Japan that can only be truly appreciated in those intimate settings. The tour was not just about performances; we enjoyed learning local languages and immersing ourselves in various cultures along the way, making it a profoundly enriching experience.

Shime: Anticipating our first tour, I was filled with excitement yet a bit of trepidation about how it would unfold. However, once we hit the stage, the audience’s enthusiasm was electrifying, and their cheers ignited our spirits. It was incredible to learn snippets of the local languages from our fans between songs, which enriched our experience and deepened our connection with them throughout the world tour.

Chaka: Since our debut in October 2022, we had eagerly awaited the opportunity for a global tour. When the moment finally arrived, it was a mixture of eagerness and nervousness as we boarded the plane. Everything felt new and exhilarating; however, we drew confidence from the unwavering support of our fans, channeling that energy into our performances. The ability to connect with people through our music was profoundly rewarding. While we recognized areas for improvement, overall, the tour proved to be an invaluable learning experience.

Genta: The world tour was a culmination of a long-held dream for the seven of us. While it certainly had its exhilarating moments, it also presented numerous challenges. Nevertheless, as my fellow members noted, the experiences we shared strengthened us as a group. I feel immense gratitude for the opportunity to perform on stage, thanks to the unwavering support from our fans and staff who stood by us throughout the journey. Additionally, I cherished the chance to explore the diverse cultures and cuisines of each country we visited. This has fueled my desire for us to continue expanding our reach and gathering more experiences.

Machu: Achieving the dream of a world tour was a monumental goal for us, and I felt genuine happiness when it became a reality. Prior to the tour, we engaged with fans through social media, especially those who couldn’t attend our domestic events. However, being able to communicate face-to-face with fans in their home countries was a uniquely rewarding experience, reminding us just how extensive and supportive our fanbase truly is. It was an incredibly fulfilling opportunity for all of us.

Umi: Completing our global tour was a profound realization of the vastness of the world and the multitude of fans eagerly waiting for us. While I had an amazing time, it also became clear to me that there is a need to improve my language skills to communicate better with our international audience.

Exploring New Musical Genres with “Say I do” and “Tokyo Crazy Night”

Umi: “Say I do” feels like a refreshing departure from our usual repertoire. It’s not often that we delve into such heartfelt expressions towards a love interest, which makes this song particularly special. I’m thrilled that we can convey such meaningful lyrics, and the catchy, karaoke-friendly vibe of the track is an added bonus for our fans.

Machu: The lyrics are quite straightforward, aren’t they? This love song effectively communicates its message, making it relatable to many listeners.

Shizu: The upbeat pop sound of the song is delightful and evokes happiness, making it an enjoyable listen for all.

Shime: I find the lyrics incredibly relatable. The line, “The illumination in my heart lights up every time I see you,” makes me wonder if our fans feel that same spark every time they attend our shows. I believe there are elements in our songs that everyone can connect with on a personal level.

“Say I do” Serves as the Theme Song for Honnou Switch, Featuring Chaka

Chaka: Upon reading the lyrics, I could vividly picture the narrative of the drama, and I feel a strong connection between the lyrics and the storyline. The song portrays two individuals deeply in love, capturing their emotions and the messages they convey to each other. I also appreciate the evolution in the lyrics, showcasing a new facet of Travis Japan. It’s exciting to discover our ability to express such sentiments through our music.

Genta: In the accompanying music video, we decided to step away from our usual “weapons” (dance) and instead, assumed roles as employees at a fictional company named Doki Doki Ren’ai Sodanjo (Racing Heart Love Consultation Center), where we assist clients in resolving their romantic dilemmas.

“Tokyo Crazy Night” Serves as the Theme Song for the Drama Series Tokyo Camouflage Hour, Featuring Machu

Machu: The song has a retro-style city pop vibe that perfectly complements the drama’s theme. It’s an exciting genre for us, one we haven’t explored before, and I believe our fans will enjoy discovering this new side of our artistry.

Shime: I’m particularly fond of the chorus. The melody, rhythm, and background sounds harmonize beautifully, making it an absolute joy to sing. While it’s essential to perform it coolly, the fun element is undeniable. I can’t wait for our fans to join us in singing this at karaoke, showcasing their coolest expressions.

Exciting Plans for Your Upcoming Second World Tour

Machu: Our first tour allowed us to feel the immense support from numerous fans, an experience we cherish deeply. This time, we plan to incorporate our learnings from last year, including exciting features like a segment where we sing alongside the audience. We aim to elevate this year’s global tour to new heights, ensuring we express our gratitude to our fans once again.

Genta: We aspire to share Travis Japan’s performance with an even broader audience, utilizing the experiences we gained last year. With the theme songs for the drama series featuring our members now released, we are eager to showcase the appeal of these new tracks as well.

Chaka: I intend to carry the love and positive energy we received during our domestic tour, along with our performance aspirations and beautiful songs, packed neatly into a metaphorical carry-on as we board our flights!

Machu: What does that even mean? Sounds like you might get stopped at security!

Shime: [Laughs] I aim to spread joy through our performances. We’ll all put in our utmost effort to create shows that enhance your love for Travis Japan’s entertainment and performances.

Shizu: Every performance we give during our international tours increases the number of people we want to see again, and it feels like our fanbase is steadily growing. I anticipate that many attendees will be experiencing our shows for the first time, so I’m devoted to making them feel like they are part of our family too. We aspire to create a tour that fans will eagerly return to and to foster a space that makes us want to come back as well.

Umi: Performing for local fans during our world tour is incredibly significant for us. There are certain emotions and connections that only come from experiencing the passion of local fans firsthand. We will channel that energy into our performances, aiming to bring joy through our singing and dancing.
