Wayne Osmond, Osmonds Singer and Guitarist, Passes Away at 73

Wayne Osmond, the talented vocalist and guitarist renowned for his contributions to the iconic music group the Osmonds, has sadly passed away at the age of 73. His death marks a significant loss in the world of music.

His family shared the heartbreaking news with a statement to Salt Lake City news station, KSL TV, saying, ?Wayne Osmond, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his loving wife and five children.? They highlighted that ?his legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter have influenced the lives of many people around the world.? Wayne?s family emphasized his unwavering belief that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are eternal, and humorously added that ?banana splits are the best dessert.? Their heartfelt message conveys the deep love and admiration they have for him, stating, ?We love him and will miss him dearly.?

Wayne was one of nine children in the celebrated Osmond family. He initially formed a barbershop quartet with his brothers Alan, Merrill, and Jay in 1958. Their big break came three years later when they performed at Disneyland and were discovered, leading to a recurring role on Andy Williams? popular variety show. This exposure catapulted the Osmond Brothers into the spotlight, but their greatest fame came in the 1970s when brothers Jimmy and Donny joined the group, transforming them into a household name.

Renamed simply the Osmonds, the family band ascended to teen idol status throughout the 1970s, capturing the hearts of fans with their wholesome, bubblegum pop sound. Their catchy hits, including ?One Bad Apple,? ?Yo-Yo,? ?Down by the Lazy River,? and ?Crazy Horses,? resonated with a massive audience, making them a defining act of the decade. The Osmonds? unique blend of talent and charm helped them solidify their place in music history.

Despite their initial overwhelming success, the Osmonds’ popularity began to decline over the years; however, some members, especially Donnie and Marie, found individual success outside the group. Throughout their career, the Osmonds sold an impressive 77 million records worldwide, and their contributions to music were recognized in 2003 when they received a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In the latter part of his life, Wayne faced significant health challenges. In 1997, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which, while successfully treated, left him mostly deaf. This medical condition ultimately led to his retirement from the Osmonds in 2007. Furthermore, a stroke in 2012 severely impacted his ability to play the guitar. His final public performance alongside his family took place in 2018, marking an emotional farewell to his fans and loved ones.
