Wyatt Russell Joins Steven Spielberg’s Upcoming Event Film
Wyatt Russell, known for his role in Thunderbolts, is currently in negotiations to join the star-studded cast of Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated event film. This exciting development has generated significant buzz among fans and industry insiders alike as Russell’s involvement could add depth to an already impressive lineup.
According to Deadline, Wyatt Russell is in discussions to become part of Steven Spielberg’s new event film, which is already generating excitement due to its impressive cast. This project features notable actors such as Emily Blunt, known for her work in Oppenheimer, Colin Firth from Kingsman: The Secret Service, Colman Domingo of Euphoria, Eve Hewson, and Josh O’Connor, who recently starred in Challengers. The combination of these talented performers raises expectations for a captivating cinematic experience.
Details about the film remain under wraps, but it is reported to center around a UFO theme, inspired by an original concept from Steven Spielberg himself. The screenplay is being crafted by David Koepp, who previously collaborated with Spielberg on Jurassic Park. Given Spielberg’s legacy in the science fiction genre, with iconic films such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and War of the Worlds, anticipation is high for this project. Universal Pictures has scheduled its release for May 15, 2026, making it a highly awaited addition to the sci-fi genre.
In addition to this project, Spielberg is developing a new film inspired by the classic action thriller Bullitt, which originally starred Steve McQueen. An update on this project was recently shared by Kristie Macosko Krieger, one of Spielberg’s producing partners. She stated, “I’m producing it. Steven [Spielberg] and Josh Singer, who is writing the script, they are working on the story.” Krieger emphasized that the project faced some delays due to the writers’ strike, but there is optimism about its progress. “I hope we have a script soon. I think it will be a wildly entertaining film.“
The original Bullitt film, based on Mute Witness by Robert L. Fish, featured Steve McQueen as a dedicated San Francisco cop determined to apprehend the crime boss responsible for a witness’s murder. Spielberg is set to direct and produce this new iteration of Bullitt, with Josh Singer penning the screenplay. The film will star Bradley Cooper as Frank Bullitt, taking on the iconic role in a fresh narrative that will not merely remake the 1968 classic but instead will present an original story centered around the character. Frank Bullitt’s children, Chad and Molly McQueen, will serve as executive producers alongside Bradley Cooper, ensuring a respectful homage to their father’s legacy.
Fans can look forward to seeing Russell reprise his role as John Walker/U.S. Agent in the upcoming Thunderbolts film, where he will share the screen with Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour, among others. This much-anticipated film is set to premiere in theaters on May 2, 2025, promising an exciting continuation of Marvel’s cinematic universe.
